The Situation

It all began with a simple discussion at the kitchen table. Glenn Jennings, owner of Bayview Poultry Farms in Masstown, Nova Scotia, was looking to reduce his power bill. Bayview’s 12,000 layers produce 10,000 eggs daily. The housing, grading and cooling facilities consume 110,000 kW of electricity annually.

Spending almost $400,000 a year on fuel, Université Sainte-Anne was looking to not only cut costs, but to invest in a renewable energy demonstration project for the region, and to earn a legacy as one of the ‘greenest’ universities in Canada.
